2017A little ice in Atlanta, but Louisiana folks had to go to an ice rink! We had a church supper on January 12 to meet Quintell Hill and family. Four from RTB Atlanta made the trip for a mini-conference in the Gadsden/Glencoe Alabama area on January 28. We installed Eddie Good and Keith Weaver as elders at MFBC on January 29. I accompanied Neal and Gayle Hunter for the food pickup for our Food Pantry on January 31. Winter family activities. The Happy Hearts group had a banquet on February 9. We had our winter Lock-In for the children at MFBC, February 10-11. Jeff and family arrived on February 24 for our Mardi Gras blessing. We celebrated Becky Ridgway's 20th Anniversary on February 26 with a luncheon. Awana flag ceremony on March 8. Ladies Retreat at Shocco Springs Assembly, Alabama, March 10-11. We enjoyed the preschool choir on Sunday morning and installed Brett Graham as an elder on March 12. Spring family activities. Our choir did a Night of Worship on April 9 with Easter music. We had a senior's trip to the Tellus Museum in Cartersvillle on April 13. Backyard life keeps us entertained. Men's retreat at Callaway Gardens on April 21-22. We made the trip to Pearl River on May 1 in time for Jordan's "Powderpuff Game". We attended the Sports Awards on Tuesday, May 2 and Jordan's Graduation on Wednesday, May 3. Mother's Day on May 13 is a day of thanksgiving for life. Brenda, Rod and Chris Suarez flew to Amsterdam on May 26 and from there to Malaga, Spain. On May 30 we took our first road trip to Seville to meet with Manuel and Alicia Olmo. On May 31 we traveled the crooked road to Ronda for exploration. We moved to Calahonda upon our return. On Friday, June 2 we drove to Gibraltar. On Saturday we stayed around Sitio de Calahonda and on Sunday we attended Calahonda Baptist Church. On Monday we drove to Granada and took the City Bus Tour. On Tuesday, June 6, we made a return trip to Seville at Manuel's invitation for a Paella dinner. On Thursday, June 8, we took a bus tour to Cordoba. There we visited the Mezquita with its Cathedral and the Jewish Quarter surrounding it. We then started thinking about being homeward bound. The variety of summer activities was greater than usual with both Jordan and Ashleigh away on summer mission assignments. On July 14 we traveled to Pearl River and took Jeff and Darla to the New Orleans Airport for a trip to Alaska. More summer activities. We had a picnic with Iglesia de Mableton at Bent Tree on August 19. On August 20, Rod and Brenda drove to Nashville for the eclipse on August 21. We stayed on for a brief Nashville visit. On September1, Rod and Brenda made the trip to Pearl River, anxious to hear about the summer adventures of Jordan in Ecuador and Ashleigh in Alaska. Dorothy went to be with the Lord on September 16. We joined family members at the Lassiter's and then had the the celebration of Dorothy's life on September 19. We enjoyed visiting with family on September 20. Reflection "Happy Memories" by Dorothy. On September 23 we had a reunion with Brenda's South Cobb High School class of 1959 at the Freeman Poole Center. Then we headed to Nashville on September 24 to spend some time while Jeff attended a conference. On Friday, September 29 we drove from Nashville to Newport for Rod's 60th High School Reunion. We enjoyed visiting with Bobby and Suzanne and then headed home on October 3. On the weekend of October 12-15 we traveled to Charlotte for the National Conference on Christian Apologetics. We enjoyed visits with Mary and John Keefe and with Carol and Bailey Richardson. We attended Brenda's Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Alumni day at Mercer on October 20. We gathered with Georgia Tech BSU alumni at the Gudger's on October 21. We had Awana picture night on November 1. On Friday, November 17 we made a flight to New York with Jeff, Darla and Elyse for the concert for which a group from our choir had prepared. We made the trip into Manhattan from La Guardia and had dinner close to Times Square. On Saturday, Rod had rehearsals and Darla and Elyse had a walk through Central Park. After rehearsals, we all experienced a dinner cruise around the New York harbor. On Sunday we went to the Brooklyn Tabernacle for the morning worship service. In the afternoon we took a bus tour down to One World Trade Center and then took the subway back to the hotel. Monday brought more rehearsals for Rod and the performance at Carnegie Hall on Monday night. On Tuesday morning Jeff, Darla,Elyse and Brenda went to the Empire State Building before our transport back to LaGuardia. Wednesday was busy with preparation for Thanksgiving dinner and Thursday was a happy Thanksgiving gathering and dinner with Sherry, Marty and Andy and Alice joining with us. Fall family activities On November 25 a bluebird housing inspection committee came to look over our bluebird house. On December 2, the wedding of Garrett Lassiter and Sarah Howard was celebrated. On December 8-9 we had the largest snow since 1993 and our power was out for two days. We received Jeff and family's Christmas picture just before our trip to Pearl River to see them.
On December 21 we traveled to Pearl River and enjoyed Christmas Day first at Jeff & Darla's and then our traditonal Christmas Day at the Moyles.
On December 26 we had a small family celebration of Elyse's 13th birthday before we had to head back to Atlanta.
