To Bent Tree and to Hiawassee

April 24, 2015

We were glad to see the lush green leaves this time since on our last trip on March 28 there was just a hint of green.

We were very glad to see the repaired ceiling since it looked like the view at left the last time we saw it. Don's sheetrock man had managed to match the stippling well so that we didn't have to take the stippling off the remainder of that big ceiling. That was good news indeed. From what Don said, he had just finished it hours before we arrived.

With that good news, we could relax a bit and enjoy the beauty of the new leaves. Nothing like that rough night of March 17.

So we took a few relaxed deep breaths of the clear mountain air and enjoyed the view from our deck. Even the hickories were beginning to leaf out now.

It was now difficult to leave the quiet of the lush woods of Bent Tree, even though we were headed for a beautiful place. But we got back on Hwy 515 and headed north through Blueridge toward Hiawassee.

It was a beautiful drive up 515 and 76 through the mountains with their lush new coat of spring leaves.

We checked in at the Lake Chatuge Lodge in Hiawassee and found this view out our room window.

Folks were beginning to arrive, so we got together with the Lowes, the Jones, the Teagues and Bill Nowell and drove to Portofino's Restaurant for a nice dinner and time of conversation.

By about 9pm we had a considerable gathering in the meeting room on the 3rd floor of the Lake Chatuge Lodge. Bottom left: John Lowe, Ron Jones, Clayton and Ellen Teague. Upper right, front group CW: Elaine Whisnant, Alice Blake, Betty Fields, Babs Gudger, Linda Jones, Nancy Baxley, Susie Lowe and Brenda Nave. By table Wynelle Middlebrooks, Mary Tanner, Dick Whisnant. Back right: John Lowe, Ron Jones, Ellen and Clayton Teague, Bill Nowell, John Baxley.
