2015We enjoyed watching a red headed woodpecker storing seed on January 10 and made a trip to Bent Tree on January 11. We had an enjoyable gathering of the Tech BSU alumni group on January 17. In a special service, we celebrated with a note-burning for the debt of MFBC on January 18. We celebrated Dr. Steve Echols' time with us as interim Pastor with a churchwide meal on February 1. On February 1 we also celebrated Aunt Dorothy Watt's 80th birthday. On February 13, Jeff and family arrived for the visit we call our Mardi Gras blessing. Some winter events The coming of spring On March 17 we went to Bent Tree for the night and returned via Gibbs Gardens. On March 28 we returned to Bent Tree for plumbing repairs. April brings new life with the emergence of tree leaves and flowers. On April 6? Rod gave the keynote address to the meeting of the SE Section of the American Physical Society on the development of HyperPhysics. On April 24 we drove to Bent Tree to check on the repairs, and then proceeded to Hiawassee for the gathering of the Georgia Tech BSU alumni group. We welcomed our honored guest Sue Woolf about 3:30 and had dinner that evening. Some stayed over for Sunday morning. Late April brought an abundance of birds to our yard, a source of enjoyment for us and food for the birds. May 10 was Mother's Day. On May 11 we headed out for Arkansas and joined the family in Little Rock to celebrate Bryan's graduation from the University of Arkansas Medical School. We continued the celebration with Dorothy's birthday. On May 31 we began our Vacation Bible School with the theme "Off the Map". On June 16 we made a trip to Charleston and visited Magnolia Plantation. On June 24 we bid goodbye to our big triple poplar tree. Visited Mark on movie set on June 26. On July 1 we headed out for Pearl River for a brief visit before Rod, Ashleigh and Jordan headed out to Ecuador. Preparations were finalized for the trip of Rod, Ashleigh and Jordan to Quito, Ecuador for an International World Changers mission trip. On Saturday, July 4, we flew to Quito with the group from NorthShore Church of Slidell, LA. Sunday, July 5, was our day to visit the churches with which we would be working. Monday, July 6 , was devoted to activities in Parque la Carolina, and we returned on Tuesday, July 7. We got to see the Pope as he passed near the park. Wednesday, July 8, was our first day of activities at Quito Norte church. Thursday, July 9, we returned to Quito Norte and Friday, July 10 was our last day with a goodbye celebration. On Saturday, July 11 we had a day of touring, including a trip to the Equator and a visit to the market at Mitad del Mundo. On Sunday morning, July 12, we returned from Ecuador to New Orleans. On Monday, we had a relaxed day on the Riverfront. On Saturday, July 18, we had a Georgia Tech BSU Alumni gathering hosted by Bill and Beth Norman. On Saturday, July 25, we had a picnic with Iglesia de Mableton at Bent Tree. We returned to Pearl River and New Orleans for the period August 1-9 to celebrate Jordan's birthday and Jeff and Darla's 20th anniversary and to just visit with the family. On Monday we visited the World War II Museum. We experienced a high tea as part of Jordan's birthday celebration. We visited the New Orleans Insectarium and the Riverfront. On September 3, Brenda and Rod made a trip to Bent Tree and stopped off at Gibbs Gardens. On September 11-12, there was a Ladies Retreat at the Baptist Assembly at Toccoa and Rod went along as photographer. On October 3, we had a dinner for single moms at the church at which our youth did a great job of serving. Mary Kilpatrick arrived from California for a medical meeting, and we got to visit the Carter Presidential Center with her on October 11. On October 16 we attended Alumni Day for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. We left after Alumni Day to drive to Charlotte for the National Conference on Christian Apologetics on October 16-18. On October 24 we had a Mexican Dinner for the Sunday School class, prepared by Angel and Rosa Suarez. On November 6 we headed out for Pearl River for Jeff's graduation from the Police Academy, Elyse's drama, and a time of visiting with the family. We looked forward to the coming of Jeff and family for their Thanksgiving visit on Friday evening, November 20. We enjoyed all the activities, including a trip to Sweetwater Park. Then we celebrated Thanksgiving dinner with the family on Thursday. On December 10 we joined the MFBC Seniors' group for a luncheon at the Green Manor in Union City. On December 19 we set out to Pearl River for our Christmas visit. We joined Jeff and family on Christmas morning and then enjoyed Christmas day at the Moyles. |
