Georgia Tech BSU Alumni gathering at Hiawassee

April 11-13, 2019

Casual Pictures of Our Gathering

The lush green of the emerging spring foliage around the lake and mountains certainly gave us a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere in which to share with old friends at this year's Hiawassee gathering.

Brenda and Rod arrived at the Chatuge Lodge about 2pm and got the gathering room on the third floor of the lodge open for our main fellowship location. About 4pm we met up with the Baxleys and Teagues. Upper left, Ellen Teague, John Baxley, Nancy Baxley, Brenda Nave, Clayton Teague. Upper right are Ann Wallace, Faye Jones, Alice Blake and Martha Brown. Bottom photo: Clayton, Butch Henderson and Rudy Matzner, with Bob Brown, Mike Wallace, and Walt McKinney in the background. So we had an active fellowship on Thursday evening.

Friday, April 12

On Friday morning a sizable group gathered for breakfast and then came upstairs to our third floor meeting room. Clockwise from top left, Ron Jones and John Baxley visit with Lake Chatuge in the background. Ann Wallace, Bill Lowder and Mike Wallace reminisce over photos that Mike had brought. Bob Brown visits with Faye Jones and Tom Jones. As others arrived there were joyful conversations around the room. At bottom right Butch and Brenda Henderson, Laddie Rollins, Bob and Martha Brown, Becky Rollins, Nancy Baxley, Brenda Nave, Clayton and Ellen Teague, Nancy Baxley. At bottom left Norman Petty, Clayton Teague and John Baxley occupy those conversation chairs. Mid left: Martha Brown, Becky Rollins, Brenda Nave, Linda Jones, Ellen Teague.

We were awaiting the arrival of Sue Woolf, and Bill and Donna Woolf arrived with her about 3:30. We have had a lot of celebrations with Sue, including her 90th Birthday celebration in 2013. Clockwise from above left: Donna and Bill arrive with Sue. Bettie and Wendell Barfield accompany her in, and Carol McKinney and Brenda Nave escort her into the gathering. At right Bettie and Wendell greet Andy Blake. Mid right: Art Sherwood, John Baxley and Walt McKinney greet Sue. Bottom right: Art Sherwood and Carol Bush with Sue. Bottom left: Walt McKinney and Clayton Teague with Sue.

The conversations of long-time friends continued throughout the afternoon until the time we gathered for a group picture and then went to dinner together, 50 of us! Clockwise from upper left, that group included John Baxley, Carol bush, Norman Petty and Bill Louder background with Charlie Middlebrooks and Frank Gudger foreground. Then Clayton Teague, Mike Wallace, Aubrey Bush and Sam Shelton. Sue Woolf seemed to really enjoy the fellowship and it was a great pleasure to all of us that she was able to come. Middle: Frank Gudger, Aubrey Bush, Sam Shelton, Wendell Barfield behind and Becky Rollins, Bettie Barfield and Brenda Nave front. Bottom right Wendell Barfield and Andy Blake. Bottom left: Nancy Baxley, Faye Jones, Tom Jones, Frank Gudger.

We traveled five miles up Hwy76 from the Chatuge Lodge to Brothers restaurant and filled their top floor banguet room. We filled the room with our continued conversations and had a great time of fellowship there. Top left: John and Nancy Baxley, Becky and Laddie Rollins, Sam Shelton. Top right: Ron Jones, Norman and Barbara Petty, Brenda Nave. Mid left: Carol Bush, Ellen and Clayton Teague. Background Vivian and Bill Lowder, Walt and Carol McKinney. Mid right: Gail and Jim Green, Butch and Brenda Henderson, Linda and Ron Jones. Bottom left: Alice and Andy Blake, Dick Whisnant, Frank Gudger. Bottom right: Ann and Mike Wallace, Wynelle and Charlie Middlebrooks, Charles Griffin. Vivian and Bill Lowder in left background.

This available-light photo of this end of the table has Elaine Whisnant, Bettie and Wendell Barfield on the right. Dick Whisnant, Andy and Alice Blake are on the left. Jim and Mary Tanner, Rudy and June Matzner rounded out our 50 in attendance, but I failed to get photos of them.

I was unable to find a position to take a good picture of Sue Woolf, our guest of honor, but this available light photo shows that she and Bill and Donna were with us. They seemed to enjoy the occasion and we were honored to have them.
