Georgia Tech BSU Alumni gathering at Hiawassee
April 11-13, 2019
Thanks to Frank and Babs Gudger for again organizing our large gathering of Georgia Tech BSU Alumni at Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, GA. This is a view of Lake Chatuge from the back of the Chatuge Lodge.
Our most recent gathering of the Atlanta area group was at the Bush's on January 19.
Our Georgia Tech BSU alumni group had gathered in 2018 in Toccoa, in Hiawassee in 2016, 2015, 2014 and before that for Warren's 90th birthday celebration in 2011. We had previous reunions there in 2010, 2007, 2005, and 2000. During 2013 we had gathered for Warren's Memorial Service and for Sue's 90th Birthday as well as a spring gathering at the Gudger's.
Atlanta area gatherings have been held in 2018 at Leland Strange's office and at the Petty's, 2017 at the Gudger's, 2015 at Folks Restaurant with the Alfords and at Franks at the Old Mill with the Normans, 2014 at the Petty's and at the Rollins' in Suches, in 2013 at Athens Pizza and at the Gudger's, in 2012 at the Hammonds' and at Nancy Bonds', 2011 at Mary Mac's, 2009 at Nancy Bonds' and at the Rollins', 2002 at the Nave's, 1981 at the Shelton's
A sad note was that until this time most of us had not known of the death of Billy Nowell from pancreatic cancer on August 9, 2018.

We got this photo of Elaine and Dick Whisnant after our big group shot. Throughout the two days of being together, the pattern was that groups formed all around the big meeting room for conversations, so in the background here you see that pattern. It was great fun.
Then we were able to get a shot of Bill and Beth Norman as they came in to visit with Sue a bit. This grouping from left includes Bob Brown, Charles Griffin, Bill Norman and Sue Woolf, Carol Bush and Wendell Barfield, Wynelle Middlebrooks and Bettie Barfield behind Beth Norman, Martha Brown and Nancy Baxley.
For our big Friday night dinner, we gathered at Brothers Restaurant, about five miles down Hwy76 from the Chatuge Lodge. We had 50 persons around the tables, and continued the pattern of active conversations the whole time we were there.
We kept thinking about how extraordinary this gathering was, of persons who have known each other on the order of sixty years. Even if we haven't seen each other for years, we jump right into conversations and share our life experiences. It was really a blessing.
