Georgia Tech BSU Alumni Gathering

Georgia Baptist Assembly, Toccoa, March 9-11

As always, the gathering of the Georgia Tech BSU Alumni group was a time of great joy and a lot of conversation and catching up. This group is my model for the nature of a long-term Christian fellowship since we have known each other since the 1950s or 60s. We are always looking to develop this kind of just and intimate community within any kind of group that we become a part of. Above is the part of the gathering that stayed around for breakfast on Sunday morning and then gathered for further conversation before departing. Our gathering this year was at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa. Thanks to Henry and Betty Fields for helping to set up everything - they live close by in Toccoa. Thanks always to Frank and Babs for keeping us organized and informed so that we can have these gatherings.

We have had previous gatherings in Hiawassee in 2016, 2015, 2014 and before that for Warren's 90th birthday celebration in 2011. We had previous reunions there in 2010, 2007, 2005, and 2000. During 2013 we had gathered for Warren's Memorial Service and for Sue's 90th Birthday as well as a spring gathering at the Gudger's.

Recent meetings have been hosted by Leland and Jane Strange in 2018 and Frank & Babs Gudger in 2017. Atlanta area gatherings have been held in 2014 at the Petty's, in 2013 at Athens Pizza, in 2012 at the Hammonds' and at Nancy Bonds', 2011 at Mary Mac's, 2009 at Nancy Bonds' and at the Rollins', 1981 at the Shelton's

This lake view from the dining hall shows that we had a rainy and foggy weekend, but it certainly didn't dampen the spirits of this group.

Certainly not as attractive to just have the guys, but I suppose it was worthwhile to show this group of Georgia Tech alumni. Norman Petty, John Baxley, Laddie Rollins, Joe Stoner, Ronnie Jones, Clayton Teague, Butch Henderson, Frank Gudger, Walt McKinney, John Lowe, Rod Nave.

The Conference Center is on Lake Louise near Toccoa. Rod had been there in 1957 for a freshman retreat before starting at Georgia Tech, and we have had several events there since. We had rooms on the third floor of the Griffith Hotel and had a nice meeting room on the first floor.
