Hot Springs and Waterfalls, Yellowstone National Park

August, 1960

The hot springs of Yellowstone were a marvel to us. None of us had seen anything like this before.

One of the numerous hot springs areas.

Sam and John at the overlook over Yellowstone Falls. We had a look at the Falls and then drove down the valley for a look back at them from a distance.

Below the falls we watched the rapids of the Yellowstone River under a dramatic Wyoming sky.

We drove around to a point where we could look back up the Yellowstone River toward the falls. After a while looking at the bright golden hue of the slopes leading to the river, it dawned on you why they called the area Yellowstone.
