Ida M. Souther Speer

1890

Ida Speer is our great-grandmother, the mother of our grandmother Susie Speer. She was born in 1853 according to material shown below, and appears to be about 40 here, so the date is estimated to be 1890. Her husband, Marcus E. Speer was born in 1844.

On Aug 21, 2007, I received an email from Donna Russell, who was doing research on the Souther family in Pewee Valley, KY. They had found some headstones of the Souther family and were searching from descendants who might have a claim to them. In that email she maintains that Ida Michael Souther was born to Colonel Michael Souther (born Feb 26, 1806) and Catherine Cloyd Souther (born Mar 11, 1812) , who owned a farm in Pewee Valley. Our family records indicate that John Grove Speer was best man when Ida M Speer's parents were married on Sept 21, 1830. Then Ida married John Grove Speer's son Marcus Edward Speer.

Her information was that the first four children of the Southers died at young ages, likely as victims of common illnesses in the the 1840s, yellow fever and typhoid. They then had two more children Ida on Feb 5, 1853 and Mary in 1855. This email is filed in the Nave History file, main file cabinet.
