Albert and Nanny Speer
| This is another picture of birthday celebration for Albert and Nanny Speer. The cake looks about the same as in the 80th birthday celebration, and the room is the same - maybe they had a second round of celebration to include the children. Albert and Nanny at the celebration. Albert was born September 13, 1871.
The photos were provided by James Albert Hitchcock, the great-great grandson of Albert and Nanny Speer. They are at various times, but tell some of the story of Albert and Nanny. My Mother, Naomi Owsley Nave, always had kind words to say about her Uncle Albert and Aunt Nanny. Our visits to Owensboro in my recollection started about 1945 and were occasional, so I didn't have the opportunity to interact with them directly.
Mother spoke often about the Speer family celebrations, some in the parks of Owensboro. My parents lived in Owensboro until 1932, so had occasion to be a part of a number of these celebrations.

This is a somewhat earlier picture of Albert and Nanny Speer with Albert's mother, Ida Souther Speer.
James said that his great-aunt's caption for this photo indicated this was taken shortly before Ida passed away. | | |
| Albert and Nanny Speer with son Harlan between them. James thought the young man behind was an Owsley son, so if so, it is probably Sheldon. |
Now as a young adult, she appears in this fun setting in an automobile with her friends. She is in center looking at the camera.
This photo makes up in history what it lacks in detail. The young girl in center is James Hitchcock's grandmother, Jean Baskett Mehrle. Behind her is her mother, Marietta Speer Baskett and her father, Robert Walker Baskett is on the far right. At far left is Marcus Edward Speer. So we have James' Grandmother, great grandparents Marietta and Robert Baskett, and his great-great-great grandfather Marcus Edward Speer!
