RAs to Camp Kaleo

Johnny Huffman, Ray Collier,Jr. and Rod took a group of RAs to Camp Kaleo near Griffin, GA. We camped out and had a camping skills competition on Saturday. Probably the boys' favorite event was going down the famous mudslide. They did get muddy! This was our first RA Camporee since 1995.

We loaded camping equipment in our VW Camper van. Laudenslager has joined the group.

Rod heads out in the VW van with Adam Massey in the front seat with him and others in back.

We pitched two tents among the group of campers and began the process of setting up our camp stove to prepare food.

Supper was hotdogs, and the guys sit around a blanket for this mealtime.

I walked out to get a wider view before it got too dark.

After dark they enjoyed the campfire. This is Buddy Stephens, Devin Powell, Laudenslager?, and Adam Massey facing me.

Buddy and Devin continue around the fire. I can't identify the other boy.

The next morning we had a lot of camping skills competitions, many of which involved lashing and knot-tying to build useful camping structures.

On one side of the campground was a steep muddy slope, close enough to the water to make it even more muddy. The great sport was to slide down it on your tummy, or try to keep to your feet and ski down, which usually didn't work. Johnny has a broom .. to brush some mud off? or just to keep them warded off?

Matthew Bryant is pretty muddy, but Devin and Buddy? We''ve got to keep them away from any of our sleeping gear!

It looks like the best thing to do with these guys is to throw them in the lake!

It looks like they are challenging us to throw them in the lake! Jon Cooler has joined the group, but didn't collect quite as much mud. Maybe he just ran into one of these guys.

I believe they are going to throw each other in the lake!

Whatever they are planning to do, they seem to be having great fun doing it!

They finally all bail off the dock into the water. They surely are muddying up the water!

Wow! Look at that mud! They may muddy up the whole lake! We joked about the poor cows who had to drink out of the stream that ran out of this lake.

Maybe they're beginning to look a little cleaner.

Now that they have submerged a few times, the mud seems to be coming off.

Hard to believe that these guys actually got this clean! How about some nice clean fishing from the dock?
