Joaquinite

NaBa2FeTi2Ce2(SiO3)8O2(OH).H2O

This joaquinite sample is a silicate which contains barium and titanium but it has the additional distinction of containing the element cerium. Its composition is NaBa2FeTi2Ce2(SiO3)8O2(OH) .H2O. The sample size is about 6x3.5 cm and it is from San Benito County, California. The joaquinite is the small orange crystals. All these samples are on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Neptunite

KNa2Li(Fe,Mg,Mn)2Ti2Si8O24

Neptunite is is a silicate which contains titanium and manganese but it has the additional distinction of containing the element lithium. Its composition is KNa2Li(Fe,Mg,Mn)2Ti2Si8O24. The large sample above from San Benito County, California. It is about 13x16 cm. The section at left shows more detail about the crystal formation.

This single crystal sample of neptunite is about 6x4 cm overall and is from San Benito County, California.
