The Paving of Moody Lane

May 10-13, 2022

We were surprised on the morning of May 10 to find our driveway completely blocked by this huge machine grinding away on the end of the street. It was a good surprise, because Moody Lane badly needed paving, and Brenda had been talking to the county for two or three years about it. Other than the trench for sewage, we had had no repair of the paving on the road in the 54 years that we have lived here. Now the grinding away of the old asphalt was a welcome sound and sight.

The ground up asphalt moved up a long conveyer belt to a dump truck which moved slowly down the street ahead of the grinder.

The pair of machines moved smoothly down the street, evening out the rough road surface.

A smaller machine swept the ground off surface, and another ground the pavement at the very end of the street to get the short length that couldn't be reached by the big grinding machine.

The process was repeated on the other side of the street until the entire street had been ground down and swept.

On May 13 we were pleased to see the paving machine come and put down several layers to produce a very nice smooth asphalt surface.

With several trips up and down Moody Lane and the work of the roller machine, they produced a beautifully smooth black asphalt street. We had certainly never seen anything that nice on our street, and we were very grateful.
