Awana at Mableton First Baptist
Awana April 12
| After missing Awana on April 5 due to Spring Break, we start with awards to three of the Sparks students. |
Awana April 19
The boys and girls started strongly after Spring Break and we had five Sparks awards this week for progress in Scripture memorization.
| Two awards for advancement in the Truth and Training division. |
The large group time this evening was devoted to a Bible study, with each student using a Bible for looking up verses.
| The boys and girls responded well to this Bible study. The Awana leaders joined in: Theresa Lamb, Lorraine Shaw, Brenda Speight, Barbara Porter, Melissa Little, Gail Wade, Tony Mode, and Jennifer Bentley in the center. |
Awana April 26
We start the Awana session with a brief game time. The boys and girls enjoy the various building sets to make structures. Melissa Little joins them on the floor with the structures.
| How high can you build it? Melissa encourages these two girls. |
A lively response to the award ceremony where we recognized advancements for one T&T and three Sparks Awanas.
| We had a special police visit to the Sparks group. He told about some of the things that are part of his duty. The students were surprisingly positive and excited about the visit! |
The officer described some of his duties, including training in safety. The students were so excited that one jumped up to run and hug him!
| The children were very interested in his uniform, which was fully equipped with his service gun and a taser. In response to questions, he demonstrated the taser by pointing the two beams at the ceiling. |
The young officer was very friendly and stayed around to visit with the children. He handed out stick-on police badges.
| The officer hands out a badge and shakes the hand of an Awana. The process was an amazingly friendly encounter with the boys and girls. |
We ended the session with a "Write the Room" exercise, where the students use posted words around the room to build a scripture sentence. The visiting officer was present for this, so we hope the interaction was a blessing to him.
