MFBC Mission Team provides supper for BCM at Georgia State University

April 11, 2023

Jonatan Coronado arranged another outreach event for our Mableton First Baptist Mission Team. This time, the team took supper to the BCM at Georgia State University for one of their Tuesday night "Ignite" events. With Jonatan, the team consisted of Barbara Floyd, Brenda Speight, and Mary Brumbelow. Rod and Brenda Nave went along to assist. Rod was the Faculty Advisor for this BCM starting in 1972 and continuing for almost fifty years. Teresa Royall has worked with this BCM for about 45 years, starting as an Associate Campus Minister with Dick Houston and then becoming the Campus Minister.

Mary Brumbelow and Brenda Speight have set up the serving area in the meeting room of the BCM building. This part of the building is on the Atlanta Historic Register as part of the history of the Coca Cola Company, dating back to the late 1800s.

Meanwhile, Barbara Floyd is heating the sauce for the meatballs on the two ranges in the kitchen. The kitchen is not as large as the one at Georgia Tech, but it served the purpose of providing a place to prepare parts of the meal.

With the help of some of the GSU students, they had the tables set up and tablecloths applied. This room dates to the late 1800s as one of the pharmacies involved in the beginning of the Coca Cola company.

Mary and Barbara transfer the heated sauce to the crockpots of meatballs. The drinks are in place, and the portable steam table set up at the end of the table with the canned heat below them.

This hard-working trio now has the tasty meatballs in place.

The next step is preparing the bread with butter and cheese topping to put in the ovens. Mary and Brenda are assisted by Brenda Nave.

The music team for tonight's program showed up to practice, so we had music for the remainder of our preparation.

The next step in the kitchen was to transfer the cooked noodles to the serving trays and add butter.

Entering the last hour of preparation, Brenda and Barbara transfer the steaming noodles to the serving trays to place above the heated trays in the serving area. This amount of noodles gives an idea of the size crowd we expected for supper.

Brenda Speight stirs the sauce and meatballs to keep them uniformly hot. Mary and Brenda Nave place the heated bread, and the supper is ready.!

Brenda and Jonatan are ready to serve this fine meal, and the serving line begins.

Jonatan serves and this enthusiastic line of students seem very appreciative.

A line of tasty food. Mary handles the providing of drinks at the end of the line.

Mary, Brenda and Jonatan stay busy as the line continues.

Brenda and Rod got to spend a little time with BCM Campus Minister Teresa Royall, with whom we have worked throughout her ministry here. Brenda was at the end of the line providing parmesan cheese and cookies.

The serving line stayed busy and tables began to fill. It was pleasing to see the fellowship among the students.

It was good to see Teresa circulate for fellowship with the students. There were nine tables of six chairs, and they were nearly full.

With nearly a full house, students kept arriving and were enthusiastic about the food.

Our team enjoyed the serving process. Most of the food was taken, but some boxes were made up for latecomers.

At the end of the meal, the students took up the round tables and replaced them with chairs. The group gathered for the Ignite worship service.

The group gathered for an enthusiastic song service.

Jonatan Coronado was introduced to bring the message of the evening.

It was good to see the Baptist Campus Ministry center so busy with so many students involved. Jonatan has put in a lot of effort in reaching out to the college ministries. Thanks for the hard work of our Mission team in supporting that outreach.
