Brenda and Bonnie were featured in the "Can't Wait for a Cure" display display on October 11, 1995.

A copy of this photo was given to Brenda in a frame and she kept it displayed in her office at Georgia Baptist Medical Center until she retired.

Bonnie struggled with the cancer for another two years and was a great witness and inspiration to many.

She went to be with the Lord on April 2, 1997 at the age of 53. The celebration service for her life was held at Davis-Struempf Chapel and it was overflowing with people whom her life had touched. Officiating at the service were Revs. Talmadge Chandler, Bill Rorie and J. E. Wix. There were also a number of personal testimonies about how her life had touched them.

In her efforts to minister to others with cancer, breast cancer in particular, she was active in the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery Program, Bosom Buddies Program and the Camp Bluebird Program.

Brenda and Bonnie have enjoyed this light-hearted camp for cancer patients and have formed some deep friendships there, like Bonnie's friend Shirley Arnold. Bonnie was always very creative in coming up with costumes. Bonnie continued to work with Camp Bluebird in crafts and many other roles of encouragement of the campers.
