2003On February 27 we say farewell to Gary Bonds, one of our longtime Tech BSU friends. Jeff and family arrive for a short visit March 1-4. A black widow came with the new flowers of spring on March 15. More flower photos on March 19. On March 22 we say goodbye to another long-time dear friend, Sharon Shelton. MFBC did the Easter drama "The Journey" at the Mableton amphitheater April 18-20. Family and friends joined us for dinner on Easter Sunday, April 20, and we enjoyed the azaleas and all the new blooms. Jordan and Ashleigh at Easter. Suzanne and Michael shared pictures of Morgan and Ethan around Easter. Another redhead in the family! On May 2-3 we had an overnight trip with the RAs, camping on a small lake near Hiram. Rod, Johnny Huffman and Ray Collier, Jr were the leaders. The Tech BSU group gathered at Laddie and Becky Rollins' for lunch on May 17. We made a trip to New Orleans for Memorial Day weekend (May 22-27) to see Jeff and Darla and the girls. We were involved in a unique edition of Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Mableton, titled "The Life and Times of Jesus Christ". June brings outside activities for Ashleigh and Jordan. Jeff and family came up for an eagerly anticipated visit on July 3-9. On July 26, we celebrate the life of Rev J. Edwin Wix, a long-time pastor and friend of the family. Philippe and Mary Sue enjoy new granddaughter Morgan and grandson Ethan. On August 1, we headed for Wisconsin for Rod's AAPT meeting in Madison. At the end of the meeting, we traveled about 50 miles to the Wisconsin Dells area and stayed at a Fairfield resort just south of the Dells. On Saturday, August 9 we went to the International Crane Foundation and briefly visited Mirror Lake State Park after that as a part of our exploration. We attended church at the United Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells on Sunday. We took the boat tour on the Upper Dells on August 11. On August 12, we took the Lower Dells boat tour and then took an afternoon drive westward to Wildcat Mountain and Mt. Pisgah. On August 14 we made a trip to Devil's Lake State Park. The approaching Fall brings school time for Ashleigh and lots of events in the family. Shirley Howard celebrates her graduation with a Master's Degree from Harding University. On September 13, the RAs went to Bent Tree to the popular swimming hole below the falls. Her broken foot healed, Ashleigh is back into soccer along with Jordan. On October 4, the RAs went to Stone Mountain. In October, Brenda was inducted into the Hall of Honor by the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. On the weekend of October 17 we went to Shocco Springs, AL for a marriage enrichment retreat. On October 24 we flew to Memphis and drove over to Newport for a family gathering. The annual fall RA Camping Trip happened November 14-15. With joy we anticipated the visit of Jeff and Darla and the girls for Thanksgiving. RAs help out with Christmas to the Cross race on December 6. On Sunday, Dec 7 the choirs dressed up for the "Church Street Christmas" musical celebration. Rod was a Pharisee in this year's Christmas to the Cross event on Friday -Sunday, Dec 12-14. On Sunday we had a Christmas luncheon for our Sunday School class at our house. Christmas cards bring pictures of the children of the extended family. We made the trip to New Orleans for Christmas with Jeff and family and the Moyles. |
